World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every year on March 24, campaigns, educational drives are organized to raise public awareness about the global epidemic of Tuberculosis and efforts to end the disease.

TB is extremely dangerous, most of us are aware and the goal to eliminate it, has been set for 2030. ‘Sushila Institute of Medical Sciences’ from Dehradun located in Sighniwala, Chakrata Road set out on a campaign on the ‘World Tuberculosis Day’ to spread awareness and educate the common public. I had an opportunity to see them in action and as we arrived there, we saw a crowd of people gathered. A lot of young crowd was present to raise awareness about TB through their “Nukkad Natak” act. They decided to act and educate, it is the best way to educate, as they say ‘Actions speak louder than words’, it also applies to education. They acted out in the public to explain how one should take care of themselves and those around us. These are some nursing students from this college, yet their motivation to act and explan is commendable.

They didn’t stop at one place, but went from place to place to make as many people aware about it as possible, giving them a lot to learn. They also performed this act at Swami Vivekananda Hospital, which is a government hospital in Dharmawala. I had gone to the hospital for my father’s treatment.

Act spreading awareness about Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is the world’s top infectious killer today. It is airborne and can affect any one of us. Over 5000 human lives are claimed by TB every year including women, men and children. These are quite a few stories of TB survivors from around the world, and it tells us that it is beatable. Some of these are very interesting reads about their journey fighting and beating TB. These survivors have experienced the side effects of TB medication, the difficulties of undergoing treatment, the mental and psychological impact, and want to raise awareness about this.

Coming back to the act I witnessed from the nursing students, they explained everything very well including what one should or shouldn’t eat. People enjoyed the act and applauded for their efforts, appreciated them. I was able to capture some moments about it and sharing here for you to read and become aware, spread the word so that the humanity is successful and is able to meet the target to eliminate TB from the planet by the year 2030.

Some highlights from the event for you to read about and learn:
